Construction has begun on the new Biomedical and Health Campus of the University of Castilla-La Mancha in Ciudad Real<\/a><\/strong>. Designed by Ram\u00f3n Esteve Estudio<\/strong>, the project will create a new academic and research hub next to the Ciudad Real General University Hospital, strengthening the links between healthcare education, clinical practice, biomedical research and the urban environment.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

A New Health Sciences Campus Connecting University, Hospital and Research<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Located next to the Ciudad Real University General Hospital<\/strong>, the new UCLM Biomedical and Health Campus<\/strong> will have more than 19,000 sqm and will bring together five independent but interconnected buildings, intended for the future Faculties of Medicine and Nursing, teaching laboratories, biomedical research, animal facility, general services and Forensic Sciences Laboratory.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The studio's proposal is conceived as an open, flexible and sustainable<\/strong> campus organised around a large entrance plaza, landscaped areas and a sequence of buildings connected by shared spaces. This layout reinforces the functional relationship with the hospital while creating an academic setting that encourages interdisciplinary collaboration, scientific innovation and knowledge transfer.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Sustainable Architecture and Green Certification at the Core of the Project<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Sustainability is central to the design. The building envelope follows passive design principles, incorporating prefabricated solutions, low-carbon materials and construction systems that improve efficiency and support industrialized building processes. The project is also registered with the Green Building Council Espa\u00f1a<\/strong> (GBCE Certificate)<\/strong><\/a>, reflecting its commitment to environmental certification and a responsible model for university development.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Ram\u00f3n Esteve Presents the Key Concepts of the New Health Sciences Campus<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

The foundation stone ceremony was attended by Jos\u00e9 Juli\u00e1n Garde, Rector of the University of Castilla-La Mancha; Emiliano Garc\u00eda-Page, President of the Regional Government of Castilla-La Mancha; Francisco Ca\u00f1izares, Mayor of Ciudad Real; and Jos\u00e9 Manuel Caballero, Second Vice President of the regional government. Following the institutional remarks, Ram\u00f3n Esteve presented the project to Garc\u00eda-Page, explaining its architectural, urban and functional strategies.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

A New Urban and Academic Landmark for Ciudad Real<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Beyond its academic and scientific programme, the campus is conceived as a new urban landmark for Ciudad Real. Its location beside the hospital, open layout and sustainable design will help consolidate a healthcare-university ecosystem designed to attract talent, expand research activity and strengthen the city's position as a centre for knowledge, healthcare and innovation. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

With this project, Ram\u00f3n Esteve Estudio<\/strong> contributes to a new university landscape in Castilla-La Mancha: contemporary, efficient and human-centred public architecture designed to meet the evolving needs of healthcare education and biomedical research.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
